Top 3 Golf Cart Rental Providers for Your Emerald Coast Tour

Travel with ease around the Emerald Coast on a comfortable golf cart rental. If you’re planning to use your car on your getaway trip, you might just want to consider renting a golf cart instead. A golf cart lets you enjoy access to areas that are off-limits to cars. Plus, you can tour the town without the hassle of having to carry everything by hand. Also, with a golf cart, you can move around with ease, allowing you to respond quickly to the situation in the event of an emergency. We’ve prepared a list of our top 3 recommended Emerald Coast golf cart rental providers. Check them out below!

1. Bike the Beach

Enjoy quick and easy transportation on your Emerald Coast vacay with Bike the Beach! This rental shop has two branches, making it accessible to both tourists visiting Panama City Beach and Santa Rosa Beach. Bike the Beach offers golf cart rental services for $435 to $925, depending on the number of days. Both their 4-seater and 6-seater vehicles are available for delivery at a minimal delivery fee of $20.

To rent a cart, you must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. In the absence of the latter, you may pay a refundable $200 cash deposit.

Because golf carts fall under low-speed vehicles (LSVs), you may use them only on public streets with a maximum speed limit of 35 mph. You can’t drive them along Middle Beach Road (Hutchinson Boulevard) and Back Beach Rd. (Panama City Beach Parkway). You can’t use them on the beach, along sidewalks, and on bike paths as well.

To drive a golf cart, you must be at least 16 years old and own a driver’s license. But 15 year-olds are also allowed as long as they’re traveling with an adult (21 years old and up) and have a permit.

If you opt to pick up your golf cart rental, you may do so at 11 AM on your check-in day. Make sure to drop off the vehicle by 11 AM on your return day.

Past customers of Bike the Beach love the shop’s exceptional service, cool prices, and friendly staff. They also provide maps to guide you in getting around the area. Plus, they have ample parking for your car while you cruise around in your golf cart.

Where to Spend Your Awesome Emerald Coast Fishing Adventure

With its 24-mile stretch of white sand beaches, there is no shortage of gorgeous, picture-perfect spots on the Emerald Coast. While admiring the view of lapping turquoise waves on the sand, you may ask yourself, “What else can I do on a Panama City Beach vacay besides dolphin watching, parasailing, and jet skiing?” Well, how about fishing?! Fishing is not only a fun outdoor activity but also an opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. There’s nothing like slowing down to wait for that big catch to nibble on your line. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just an easygoing, curious traveler looking for new things to try, you’ll enjoy reeling in your own dinner while hanging out with your friends and family on your Emerald Coast fishing adventure! Check out where you can go fishing during your next visit to the Emerald Coast.

What Fish Can I Catch on the Emerald Coast?

Emerald Coast’s rich waters are home to thousands of fish species, making it an ideal destination for your fishing escapade. Here are just a few of the most common catches from these diverse fishing grounds:

1. Redfish

The tough-fighting redfish is the most popular catch found around the Gulf of Mexico. No doubt about it, it’s the top go-to species of inshore anglers on the Emerald Coast. Thriving in the shallow waters of the back bays and waterways of the St. Andrew Bay System, redfish can be caught year-round and feed mostly on shrimp, snails, and crabs. While this delicious creature is always in season, you’re most likely to catch a “bull” redfish weighing 10 to 30 lbs, during the fall season in the deeper Panama City Pass.

2. King Mackerel

Also known as Kingfish, the King Mackerel is a migratory fish found both inshore and offshore. It is one of the most common, largest, and fastest members of the Mackerel family. It grows up to 40 lbs and travels with others in “schools” of Kingfish. The Kingfish is an oily meat that tastes best when smoked or grilled. Although this tasty fish is usually caught by trolling, you can also try your hand at using live baits, such as sardines, pogies, and blue runners.

3. Cobia

The cobia is also called “Lemonfish” and is found along the sandbars in the spring time. To catch aggressive anglers, like the cobia, it’s best to use live baits such as crabs and shrimp, or lures like plastic eels and colorful jigs. This fish is known for its firm and mild-tasting meat that remains pinkish when raw and white when cooked. Most locals eat this buttery saltwater fish grilled, smoked, deep-fried, pan-seared, or even raw!

How to Prepare for Your Emerald Coast Fishing Trip

Whether you want to go solo or join a bunch of other anglers and tourists on your Emerald Coast fishing trip, you’ll surely find excellent fishing spots in the area. But before you head out, be sure to check the latest fishing reports, identify alternative fishing locations, confirm that the weather is ideal, and of course, pack your fishing essentials with lures and baits ready to go. Don’t have your own fishing gear? Not a problem! If you decide to join a fishing charter, most of the fishing equipment you’ll need should be provided.

Where Can I Go Fishing on the Emerald Coast?

There are many ways to cast your line on the Emerald Coast! You can choose to go pier fishing, surf fishing, or boat fishing. While they are all very different experiences, you’ll have fun no matter which way you go.

Shore Fishing

Shore fishing is land-based fishing where you basically fish from anywhere along the shoreline, including from beaches, rock jetties, or even fishing piers. During your trip to the Emerald Coast, you can choose to fish from many of these spots! It is typically the easiest and most cost effective way to go fishing because you can easily cast your line directly off of one of our local fishing piers, or wade into the shallow surf zone of one of our sandy beaches! However, be sure to bring all of your own fishing gear or rent locally!

For surf fishing, just stake your claim on a good spot along the shore, and be on the lookout for Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Amberjack, Sheepshead, Whiting, or even a local shark species, too! Anglers are usually great for surf fishing during sunrise, sunset, or at night.

To go pier fishing, you can head out to the 1,500-feet-long Russell-Fields City Pier, M.B. Miller County Pier, or St. Andrews State Park Pier, where you can expect to catch Amberjack, Tuna, Cobia, or Sailfish.

Want more of an adventure out in nature? Try kayak fishing at St. Andrew Bay, West Bay, or Hathaway Bridge, and relish the peaceful joy of paddling through the calm bay waters on your angling adventure.

Charter Boat Fishing

What’s the best thing about joining a fishing charter? It’s a professional operation with folks that make it as convenient as possible for you to just show up and start fishing! Going on a fishing charter usually offers the best value for money because they provide all the fishing gear, required fishing licenses, transportation to great spots in the ocean or bay, and most importantly, professional coaching! All you have to do is show up and focus on reeling in your big catch with the support of their expert crew who can give fishing tips and techniques on the spot. Check out these recommended fishing charters you can board for your Emerald Coast angling escapade.

1. Florida Panhandle Charters

Hook into a trophy catch with Florida Panhandle Charters, which offers inshore, nearshore, and bottom fishing for $700 to $1,000 per charter. Are you a newbie? No problem! When you book their inshore trip, you can expect to catch some Speckled Trout, Redfish, and more. Their nearshore fishing trips go out in the morning or in the afternoon, and you can troll for a variety of saltwater species, including Mackerel and Jack Crevalle. They also offer seasonal Shark fishing, where you will use light tackle and rods to lure in Blacktip, Spinner, Bonnethead, and Hammerhead sharks.

Want a fun activity for your family to bond over? Reserve your slot on one of Florida Panhandle Charters’ 4-hour bottom fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico, where you can also enjoy nature watching, seeing different varieties of fish, like Red Snapper, Triggerfish, and Grouper, gather around their natural and artificial reef habitats. Bringing kids with you on your Emerald Coast fishing escapade? Be sure to book their 3-hour Fishing for Kids experience, which teaches youngsters how to inshore fish.

To guarantee your reservation, you will need to pay a 30% deposit fee using your credit card. Where to Spend Your Awesome Fishing Adventure in Gulf Shores

The pristine, unspoiled waters of Gulf Shores have a lot to offer anyone looking for a much-needed break from their daily grind. If you’re planning a trip to Gulf Shores, AL you probably already have dolphin watching, parasailing, or jet skiing on your to-do list, right? But what about fishing? Since all good vacations should include some rest and relaxation time, fishing is actually one of the most ideal outdoor activities you can try out to help re-center and unwind. Not to mention the fact that fishing can also be one of the most fun and exciting things to do during your beach escapade. Read on to learn more about how and where you can go fishing in Gulf Shores and nearby areas.

What Types of Fish Will I Catch in the Gulf Coast?

Gulf Shores is home to numerous fish species that are good to eat and fun to catch. The most popular local catches in the area include the redfish, speckled trout, and snapper.

1. Redfish

Redfish have many names, such as red drum, red bass, spottail, and channel bass. They are famous for their dark red backs, which make them easy to spot when they swim in shallow water. You may also see them break the surface of the water because they swim vertically to hunt for their food, like shrimp, snails, and crabs. With an average lifespan of 40 years, these delicious fish can be found both inshore and offshore in the Mobile Bay, Little Lagoon, and Perdido Bay all-year-round.

2. Speckled Trouts

Another common local species is the speckled trout, also known as spotted seatrout. These fish can be found inshore and are best caught during the fall and spring seasons. However, note that the state of Alabama has a harvest regulation that allows only a total of six speckled trouts (15” to 22” in length) to be caught per person per day. Speckled trouts are known for having soft, white meat and are best fried or broiled. If you want to catch these tasty fish, consider bringing live shrimp, jerkbaits, soft plastics, and topwaters for bait and lures.

3. Snappers

Red snappers are a popular fish to catch and eat almost everywhere. To catch these fish in Gulf Shores, anglers usually use dead bait, such as squid and pogies. However, if you’re aiming to catch a large prize, consider using live bait, such as pinfish and ruby red lips, as they work best to lure these predators in. Red snappers are known to have meat with a firm texture and mild flavor that’s slightly sweet and nutty in taste. For a tasty meal, this fish is best cooked with seasoning and roasted over lemon slices.

How to prepare for your Gulf Shores Fishing Trip

Whether you want to go on a private charter or join other anglers and tourists on a group fishing excursion, there are many excellent fishing options to try out in Gulf Shores. But before you head out, be sure to prepare to make the most of your fishing adventure:

  • Get the latest fishing reports for current tips and updates on finding the best fishing locations to cast your line.
  • Check the weather reports.
  • Pack your gear, tackle, lures, and baits. Don’t have your own fishing gear on hand? Not a problem, especially if you plan on joining a fishing charter that provides all of the fishing equipment you’ll need. If you decide to fish from a pier or shore, you might need to purchase a fishing license on your own at the Gulf State Park pier or online. Be sure to remember to bring lots of drinking water, meals, and snacks to keep your energy up. And don’t forget to also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed fishing hats, too, for sun protection.

Where to Go Fishing in Gulf Shores

Excited to bait a hook and catch some fishy good eats? Check out some of the most popular methods and places to go fishing in Gulf Shores.

Shore Fishing in Fort Morgan

Fort Morgan’s geographical formation as a peninsula makes it an ideal site for fishing in the Alabama Coast. As such, you can easily fish along many cool hot spots in this quaint community west of Gulf Shores on Mobile Point. Just grab your fishing rod and pick your spot from the following options.

1. Fort Morgan Beach

Surf fishing along the shores of Fort Morgan Beach is a great way for first-time anglers to enjoy the outdoors while learning a new skill. If you want a simple but fun physical activity to do, just head over to the beach with your fishing essentials, and look for sandbars. That’s where you’ll want to set up as fish usually love hanging out there, chasing and feeding on your waiting bait. However, just note that as a beginner, you may find it hard to spot a sandbar, a point, or a hole at first. But don’t give up! You’ll eventually learn how to differentiate these structures as you dive deep into the art of surf fishing.

2. Dixey Bar

Often misspelled as Dixie Bar, Dixey Bar is another popular fishing location in Fort Morgan. Here’s some local trivia: Dixey Bar is a shallow sandbar named after the clipper ship, Robert H. Dixey, which got destroyed on the bar by a hurricane in 1860. Today, the spot is a favorite among local anglers hoping to catch giant redfish, also called bulls, that often swim in the bar for feeding frenzies.

3. Gulf State Park Pier

The Gulf State Park Pier not only offers 2,448 feet of fishing space, but also a picturesque view of the ocean. Anglers love casting their lines here because of the variety of fish they can catch from the Pier. Pompano, Red Drum, Flounder, Whiting, and Spanish Mackerel are just some of the many species found in this famous fishing site. No bait and tackle? Don’t worry! You can conveniently purchase your bait, along with an Alabama fishing license, on site.

Kayak Fishing

Kayaking has gained popularity over the decades amongst outdoor enthusiasts. But did you know that Gulf Shores also offers a number of scenic places that you can fish while experiencing a peaceful ride paddling through the local waterways. A favorite pastime among locals and tourists alike, kayak fishing can be done on the waters of Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan, and Orange Beach. Little Lagoon, located on West Beach in Gulf Shores is home to a variety of fish, making it ideal for kayak fishing. Trout, redfish, and flounder are some of the other popular catches in the area.

Fishing Charters

If you want expert guidance to help you reel in some big catch, then you should consider booking a fishing charter. Besides the convenience of not having to worry about bringing your own fishing equipment, fishing charters also offer experienced crew support that will teach you some nifty fishing techniques to up your fishing game. Here are some recommended fishing charters in Gulf Shores:

1. Hudson Marina

Hudson Marina is a family-owned and operated business located along South Wilson Boulevard in Orange Beach. When you go on a fishing escapade with Hudson Marina, you can look forward to catching red snappers, gag groupers, cobias, amberjacks, vermillion snappers, and triggers.

The company offers different options for fishing charters and party boat fishing trips that range from $59 to $155 per person. For semi-private deep sea fishing charters, you can schedule 4-hour, 6-hour, and 8-hour trips that cost $1,800 to $3,150 for the first 18 people. Got kids? Great! Kids are often invited to try their hand at steering the boat with the Captain’s assistance, of course.

For those who just want to enjoy a fun day out on the water and not fish, you can head over to the large viewing deck onboard to take in the picture-perfect scenery. Other helpful tips Hudson Marina gives is to remember to bring snacks and drinks, sunscreen, a hand towel, and of course, some ginger tablets or Dramamine for those who are prone to motion sickness.

If you book a Hudson Marina fishing charter, make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes before the boat’s departure. After booking, check your email for your booking confirmation with the detailed directions.

Top 3 Picks and Tips for Your Great Smokies Rafting Adventure

If you’re an adrenaline junkie looking for a water adventure in the Smokies, rafting is the way to go. Rafting is a water sport that uses an inflated raft to navigate the rapids. You don’t have to be skilled at rafting or have prior experience to enjoy this activity. Read on to learn how and why you should go rafting in the Smokies on your next visit!

3 Reasons to Go Rafting

1. Rafting is good for your health and keeps you in shape.

Since paddling through the rapids require endurance, rafting makes for good cardio exercise and helps build muscles in your arms, shoulders, and back. And because it’s an extreme sport, rafting makes challenging exercise fun because it provides an adrenaline rush that focuses your brain on the happy feeling of excitement rather than the strenuous paddling. Moreover, rafting can also help boost your self-esteem. Overcoming the challenges inherent to rafting can give you a sense of accomplishment and make you more confident in trying new thrilling adventures.

2. Rafting brings you closer to nature.

As you paddle along the rapids, you’ll take in the beautiful lush scenery surrounding you in the water. When the water conditions are calm, be sure to take your time breathing in the fresh air and admiring the greenery when you go rafting in the Smokies.

3. Rafting is a team-building activity.

Did you know that rafting is commonly done with a group and, most of the time, requires teamwork? Absolutely! On your ride, you can bet you will work together with your raft mates as a team to carefully maneuver your raft through the rapids. And each time you manage to dodge an obstacle or make a successful turn together, you and your team will be cheering in celebration of your shared exhilarating experience.

3 Basic Rafting Tips for Beginners

1. Dress appropriately.

There’s no way you won’t get soaked on your rafting adventure, so make sure you wear proper attire. Avoid wearing cotton clothes and jeans because they can release body heat and absorb water easily. Instead, opt for quick-drying sportswear over a bathing suit. However, if you plan to go rafting in the Smokies during the colder months, wear clothes made of wool or fleece to keep your body warm.

For footwear, choose strapped water-ready sandals or shoes that you won’t mind getting wet.

But most importantly, don’t forget to wear your life vest and helmet on your ride! This safety gear will most likely be provided by your outfitter. Even if the water seems to be super calm, be sure to keep your safety gear securely on your head and body at all times just in case.

And of course, never bring your valuables with you on the raft as they will only get soaked and/or end up getting lost in the water. So leave your one-of-a-kind hats, jewelry, and purses at home!

2. Know what to do in case you fall out of the raft.

Falling overboard while rafting is a normal occurrence, so don’t panic. If this happens, quickly grab the raft’s side and hold on to the safety rope until your guide or fellow rafters pull you back in.

While being pulled back in, face your raft so that your rescuers can pull you in face-first. By doing so, you’ll be able to bend at your waist and kick against the water to more easily lift yourself into the boat.

In case you’re swept away by a current, be sure to keep your nose and toes above the surface of the water. Remember to always face the direction where the water flows: downstream. And don’t forget to keep your arms on both sides so that you can more easily maneuver yourself.

If your rescuers throw you a rope, go ahead and grab for it, keeping it over your shoulders while they pull you in. And as they pull you towards the boat, make sure to keep your back facing the raft to avoid getting water in your mouth!

You’re a strong swimmer, you say? That’s great! Just be sure to remember that it’s very important to wait until the waters are calm before you begin to swim. Unless you’re  past the rapids and in a calm section of the river, your best option is to remain in a floating position until the conditions improve.

3. Trust your guide.

Rest assured that you can fully enjoy your rafting experience knowing that trusty guide will help keep you safe during your ride. Rafting guides are not only properly trained, but they should also be very familiar with the rivers and waterways you travel. They will teach you all the important techniques, including the “T-grip,” or the proper way of holding the paddle. Listen carefully as they provide you with important instructions and safety tips. Your guide will also be on hand to the rescue in case you fall out of the raft.

Where to Book Your Great Smokies Rafting Adventure

The Pigeon River in Tennessee is a premier spot in the Smokies for various water sports, such as rafting. When planning your Great Smokies getaway, make sure you explore booking a rafting adventure with one of these favorite rafting tour providers:

1. Rafting in the Smokies

The upper Pigeon River is where the Class III (moderate, irregular waves) and Class IV (powerful, but predictable waves) whitewater rapids are located. When rafting in the Smokies, you may paddle
down Too Late, Razor Blade, After Shave, Vegamatic, and Lost Guide—also known as the lively rapids spanning 5.5 miles of the river. The Pigeon River Rafting in the Smokies outpost is one of the most accessible outposts in East Tennessee. You can get there by taking Exit #447 to Hartford from I-40 near the Tennessee-North Carolina border.

Except for the Lower Pigeon Family Float, which allows kids three years and up, this tour company requires a minimum age of eight years old and a minimum weight of 70 lbs to participate.

That being said, no rafting experience is needed to sign up! Most of their rafting adventures are not only suitable for beginners, but their friendly guides also know how to make each rafting adventure enjoyable. You can book your tour online for $39 to $49 per person. Make sure you read their itinerary with safety briefing and sign a waiver before starting your tour. For safety reasons, you must be able to fit into their 56-inch personal flotation devices.

If you wear glasses or contact lenses, consider using an eyeglass retainer, which you may purchase at their store. And don’t bother bringing your camera unless it’s waterproof. Why? Because they have a professional photographer who takes quality digital photos of your rafting experience that you can purchase after your tour.

In case you need to cancel your booking, be sure to do so at least 48 hours before the trip to get a full refund.

Experience a three-hour tour, which usually starts with exploring the local waters to spot the area’s marine wildlife, including the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. Dolphin & Snorkel Tours’ deckhands are locals and experts on the behavior of these dolphins in the Panama City Beach area. So, feel free to ask away during your educational ride.

Dolphin & Snorkel Tours changes routes every day to give you a unique experience on each cruise, which can accommodate two to six guests. You can either book a private cruise for $249 to $399 per group or join others on a public tour for $49 to $79 per person. Everyone, including infants and toddlers, may board the cruise. Your pet dogs are also welcome on private tours!

Everyone gets a life jacket to wear as provided by the crew during the ride. Full snorkeling gear, coolers, and refreshments are also available onboard if you wish to add to your experience. However, note that you may also bring your own snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages. Be sure to bring along a towel, a pair of sunglasses…and a sweater just in case the breeze gets bitterly cold during your cruise!

Plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before departure. If you’re more than 15 minutes late and you miss the boat, you will be considered a no-show. In case you need to cancel, be sure to do so at least 48 hours before your reservation to get a full refund.

3. Island Time Sailing

Climb aboard Island Time Sailing’s wide-body sailing catamaran that measures 50 feet in length. A catamaran is a boat with two hulls instead of one, providing greater stability and, hence, a smoother ride for passengers (best for those of us who may get seasick easily!). Island Time Sailing is also one of our top-rated Emerald Coast dolphin cruises. It glides across the calm waters of the Grand Lagoon and then past St. Andrew’s State Park to seek out the local wildlife. Tourists of all ages will definitely love the cruise experience, which accommodates up to 65 people. If you’re traveling with someone who uses a wheelchair, don’t worry because their staff will gladly assist them in getting on board. Plus, there are dedicated locations for wheelchair users on the cruise.

Island Time Sailing is famous for its “Rum Punch,” tropical music, and entertainment with games and dancing after sunset. Feel free to take in the glorious view of the ocean while sipping wine and nibbling snacks from their bar.

You must book your spot at least two hours before the tour and arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to departure time. Island Time Sailing accepts cash and most major credit cards for payment. While they offer public cruises for $10 to $49 per person, you can also charter your very own private catamaran tour if you want to keep it exclusive to your family and friends.

If you need to cancel, they advise you to contact them at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled tour for a full refund. Lastly, Island Time Sailing recommends wearing rubber, hard-soled shoes with good grip while on board. And ladies, please remember to leave your high heels at home as they are forbidden for potentially damaging the boat’s decks.
