Emerald Coast Beach House Pest Control

Check out Mighty Vacay's beach house pest control practices.

There is nothing quite like being in nature’s splendor. It’s relaxing to hear the song of chirping birds or the symphony of ocean waves crashing. But don’t be surprised if you also come across some of nature’s less desirable critters and pests during your trip to the Emerald Coast. Welcome to the tropics of Florida, where man and critters live among one another. Read on to learn about Mighty Vacay’s beach house pest control practices and some common pests in the area.

Beach House Pest Control Policies

At Mighty Vacay, we proactively prevent pests by following 3 pest control best practices:

  • We treat our cabins every month for pest prevention.
  • We immediately clean our cabins after each stay to remove all food residue and scents as soon as possible.
  • We close off all cracks, holes, and potential entryways for pests.

In addition, Mighty Vacay encourages guests to follow these pest control policies:

  • Keep all windows and doors shut to keep pests out.
  • Keep the kitchen and dining areas clean. Wash the dishes, throw away trash, and wipe off counters and tables. Store all food in sealed containers.

Common Pests

Guess what? Summertime in the Emerald Coast of Florida is peak visitor….and BUG season! Yup, you read that right. To help you prepare for your trip, learn about the common pests you might come across during your vacay with us, especially if you don’t follow our recommended pest control practices:

  • Cockroaches: You may see Asian cockroaches, German cockroaches, or Palmetto bugs if you’re not careful. Asian cockroaches and Palmetto bugs are particularly common at our home. Both are strong fliers, normally live outside and do not survive inside the home for long. However, they may fly into the house because they are attracted to light. On the other hand, German cockroaches love to live indoors and will spawn quickly. Although they also have wings, you’ll most likely see roaches scurry across the floors and counters AT lightning speed!
  • Mosquitos and noseems: Mosquitos are really common throughout Florida and will make a meal of you if you let them into the house! Noseeums are small biting flies that are difficult to see and typically nips people at the beach.
  • Fire ants: Fire ants are small and dark reddish-brown to black in color. Known for being aggressive and easily agitated, fire ants can be found marching in and out of their unique nesting mounds. Although they do not usually attack for no reason, they will bite if you threaten them. So be sure to stay away from these nesting mounts and do not walk outdoors barefoot!

Cockroaches, Mice, and Ants (Oh my!)

Although we clean our cabins thoroughly after each stay, guests can encourage these pests to show up if they do not keep the place clean of food. To avoid these unwanted critters, be sure to keep all doors closed and immediately clean all dishes and pans after every meal, wipe off kitchen counters and dining tables after cooking and eating, and keep all food sealed in containers or Ziploc bags or in the fridge.
