There is nothing quite like being in nature’s splendor. It’s relaxing to hear the sweet squawking of seagulls. It’s soothing to listen to the symphony of ocean waves crashing. But don’t be surprised if you also come across nature’s less desirable critters and pests during your trip to the Gulf Shores. Welcome to the humid subtropics of Coastal Alabama, where man and critters live among one another. Read on to learn about Mighty Vacay’s beach home pest control practices.
Pest Control Policies
At Mighty Vacay, we proactively prevent pests by following 3 pest control best practices:
We treat our cabins every month for pest prevention.
We immediately clean our cabins after each stay to remove all food residue and scents as soon as possible.
We close off all cracks, holes, and potential entryways for pests.
In addition, Mighty Vacay requires guests to follow these pest control practices:
Keep all windows and doors shut to keep pests out.
Keep the kitchen and dining areas clean. Wash the dishes, throw away trash, and wipe off counters and tables. Store all food in sealed containers.
Keep all trash and waste away from the entrances into the house and make sure to always keep the trash bin covers closed, both inside the house and the outdoor garbage cans.
Common Pests
Guess what! Part of your Gulf Shores vacation experience may be a potential skirmish or two with…PESTS! Yup, you read that right. Learn about the common pests you might come across especially if you don’t follow our pest control practices outlined above:
Cockroaches and mosquitos: These annoying pests are present anytime during the year. They are usually seen during rainy days. Please keep ALL doors and windows closed if you don’t want these unwanted guests to stay with you.
Biting flies, yellow flies, and sand fleas: These blood suckers are really common throughout the Gulf Shores. And they will make a meal of you if you let them! They can appear anytime during the year. But they are most active during the late Spring and early Summer months of April through June.
Fire ants: Fire ants are small and dark reddish-brown to black in color. Known for being aggressive and easily agitated, fire ants can be found marching in and out of their unique nesting mounds. Although they do not usually attack for no reason, they will bite if you threaten them. So be sure to stay away from these nesting mounts and do not walk outdoors barefoot!
Beach mice: These are not just your normal rodent. They are actually protected and cannot be targeted for extermination! You will get fined if you hurt these critters. Yes, you read that correctly. Again, please be sure to keep ALL doors and windows closed to keep our furry friends out of the house.
Cockroaches, Ants, and Mice (Oh my!)
Although we clean our homes thoroughly after each stay, guests often encourage these pests to show up when they do not keep the place clean of food. To avoid these unwanted critters, be sure to keep all doors closed and immediately clean all dishes and pans after every meal, wipe off kitchen counters and dining tables after cooking and eating, and keep all food sealed in containers or Ziploc bags or in the fridge.
